Williamsburg Community Foundation Announces Grants to Area Charities

On October 5, 2011, the Board of Trustees of the Williamsburg Community Foundation presented grants totaling $35,100 to fourteen nonprofit organizations during a grant award luncheon generously underwritten by The Optimal Service Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. $26,000 was awarded from the Community Endowment Fund while $1,000 was awarded from the Genevieve McGiffert Memorial Fund for the Musical Performing Arts, $2,100 from the Business Partners Make a Difference Fund, $1,000 from the Donald S. and Linda T. Baker Charitable Fund, and $5,000 from the Craig and Shirley Stambaugh Fund. Foundation Executive Director, Nancy Coté Sullivan announced that we are approximately 65% of the way toward reaching our 2011-2012 Annual Fund goal. Nancy thanked the many people who have already supported our Annual Fund this year.

The Genevieve McGiffert Memorial Fund for the Musical Performing Arts was established with contributions from Art Song of Williamsburg, board members Linda and Don Baker, and Michael McGiffert.

Established in 2006, the Business Partners Make a Difference Fund conducts an annual campaign within the business community to build support for the foundation’s annual fund and grantmaking activities. Business Partners are recognized as part of the annual campaign and each year have the opportunity to assist in selecting grant recipients, recommended by the Foundation’s distribution committee.

As the Foundation’s permanent endowment grows through its investments and gifts from individuals and businesses, so will its ability to fund new and innovative local programs. The Foundation also makes grants from donor-advised funds through recommendations by the funds’ donors. Last year, grants from all funds at the Foundation totaled $257,836.

The grants fall into the categories of Arts/Culture, Community Improvement, Education, and Health/Human Services.  Information concerning the 2012 Winter Grant Application Process will be posted on our website in late November .
