WCF HOSTS BUSINESS PARTNERS RECEPTION On March 12, 2009, the Williamsburg Community Foundation hosted a reception for current and potential Business Partners. The event was held at Seasons of Williamsburg Flowers and Gifts. Approximately 25 representatives from local businesses attended and were given an opportunity to learn more about the workings of the Foundation and to ask questions concerning the Business Partnership program.
Chairman, Vernon Geddy, gave a few welcoming comments in which he pointed out a new opportunity for Business Partners this year. On November 22 the Foundation will be holding its 10th Anniversary Gala and the Foundation is looking for Business Partners to support the Gala. Vernon discussed the various levels at which Business Partners can participate. The Gala will be a celebration of all that has been accomplished in ten years. The Foundation’s goal is to be able to announce at the Gala that the Foundation has completed its Chairman’s Challenge, by reaching $1 million in its Community Endowment. At this level the Foundation will provide $35,000 each year for distribution to the community.
Chairman Geddy closed by noting that the Foundation completed its first year, in 1999, with $100,000 in funds, and today has over $2 million in assets and has made over $2 million in grants to the community. Last year the generous Foundation donors contributed $735,000 to establish endowment funds that will support greater Williamsburg forever.
Established in 2006, the Business Partners Make a Difference Fund conducts an annual campaign within the business community to build support for the foundation’s administrative and grantmaking activities. Business Partners are recognized as part of the annual campaign and each year have the opportunity to assist in selecting grant recipients, recommended by the Foundation’s distribution committee. Past grantees are the Rita Welsh Adult Literacy Program, Vibrant Life Ministries, Grove Christian Outreach Center, Angels of Mercy Clinic and Community Services Coalition.
