Grants Overview
In its ten-year
history, the Williamsburg Community
Foundation has distributed grants of almost $2 million
to support local organizations in the areas of
arts & culture, community improvement, education,
health & human services and historic preservation.
The major portion of the grants are from donor-advised
funds.
Nearly half of this sum has been dedicated to education.
WCF has granted the College of William &
Mary $675,250 in support of its Athletic and Education
Foundation, the Mason School of Business, the
Alumni Society, and the Muscarelle Museum of Art.
William & Mary received a total of 48 grants from
WCF in 10 years, the majority from the foundation’s
donor-advised
funds. WCF has also distributed
grants to over 40 other educational organizations.
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the
Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation received ample
support from WCF to aid in the preservation of our
local and national history, receiving $192,350 from 27
grants and $96,234 from 19 grants, respectively.
Numerous health and human services organizations,
such as American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Dream Catchers Therapeutic Riding Center, Olde Towne
Medical Center, and Child Development Resources,
received from $7,000 to $17,000 from WCF. Grants
totaling $37,000 have been awarded in support of
Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg and grants of
$138,544 to United Way of Greater Williamsburg.
In the area of the arts, the Williamsburg Symphonia
received grants totaling $41,700. The Williamsburg
Choral Guild and First Night of Williamsburg are
among several organizations that were granted between
$5,000 and $7,000. |
