SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION JOIN FORCES

The Williamsburg James City County Community Scholarship Fund, an organization with a 35 year track record in the greater Williamsburg Community, has announced that it will be joining forces with the Williamsburg Community Foundation to build an endowment for the scholarship program, expand its outreach, operate its annual scholarship program and gain the WCF's expertise in managing its financial activities.

As of October 1, 2009 the WJCCCSF will become a component fund of the Williamsburg Community Foundation. An initial contribution of $5,000 will provide the first seed money of a separate endowment fund which will one day provide additional scholarships to students in the area.

The Scholarship Fund began in 1974 as the Lafayette Educational Fund. With the opening of Jamestown High School in 1997 it became the Jamestown-Lafayette Education Fund. In 2007 it became the WJCC Community Scholarship Fund when Warhill High School opened. Currently the Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students graduating from Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill High Schools. In 2009, 58 scholarships valued at $47,900 were awarded to Lafayette, Jamestown, and Warhill High School Students. The minimum award was $600. The group’s board and volunteers will continue their work of raising funds and distributing scholarships as a new committee of WCF, with the funds raised being managed and distributed by the WCF
