$54,650 awarded to local organizations
In its second grant round of the year, the Williamsburg Community Foundation presented grants totaling $54,650 to 15 local nonprofit organizations at its Grant Award Luncheon on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Ford’s Colony Country Club. The luncheon was underwritten by generous gifts from TowneBank and Oleta Coach Lines, Inc. and the Smith Family. Howard Smith is a trustee of the Foundation.
These grants come from a variety of sources including our Community Endowment Funds, permanently endowed funds for specific interests and still others from our Donor-Advised Funds. Below is a list of the grants awarded:
COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT GRANTS
- Avalon: A Center for Women & Children – $2,500 for Secure & Confidential Computer Network
- Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg – $5,000 for Final Gifts Vigil Program
- Housing Partnerships, Inc. – $4,977 for Rapid Response Ramp Loan Program
- Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center, Inc. – $3,000 for Client Assistance Fund
- Williamsburg Area Faith in Action – $5,000 for Faith in Action In-Home Services (this grant is in partnership with a donor advised fund of the Foundation)
DONOR ADVISED GRANTS
These grants are awarded by our generous donor-advisors to assist agencies that WCF was not able to fund through the Community Endowment or other funds.
- Dream Catchers – $5,000 for Dream Catchers’ Scholarships
- Gwendolyn’s Wish – $1,250 for Mobile Pet Clinic
GENEVIEVE MCGIFFERT MEMORIAL FUND FOR THE MUSICAL PERFORMING ARTS
Established by Linda and Donald Baker and Michael McGiffert to support vocal performances for adults.
- All Together, Inc. – $500 for Building a Vocal Community: The Power of Song in Community
- Williamsburg Choral Guild – $500 for An Afternoon with Mozart and a Modern Perspective
- Williamsburg Music Club – $500 for 2016-2017 Vocal Musicales
WILLIAMSBURG FUND FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS
Established by Stephanie and Bob King to support programs for women and girls in need in the greater Williamsburg Area.
- Auxiliary of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center – $3,523 for Free Mammogram Program (this grant is presented in partnership with the Community Endowment)
BENJAMIN R. ALTSHULER MEMORIAL FUND – TRANSPORTATION GRANTS
Established by the Estate of Benjamin Altshuler to make transportation accessible and affordable enabling all residents of the area to participate in community life.
- The Arc of Greater Williamsburg – $5,000 for client transportation
- Avalon: A Center for Women & Children – $5,000 for client transportation
- Colonial Behavioral Health – $5,000 for a Vehicle for New Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) Team
- FISH – $2,300 for general support of the Food Pantry/Clothing Closet
- Virginia Living Museum – $600 for Virginia Living Museum Community Education
- Williamsburg Area Faith in Action – $5,000 for Senior Transportation
